The invention relates to a short-circuiter for an accidental arc protection device for use in systems which distribute electric energy. The short-circuiter comprises a gas generator, a short-circuiting element which is directly driven by the gas generator and a short-circuiter piston. A short-circuiter should be improved such that the short-circuiter piston carries out an optimal pushing movement independent of manufacturing tolerances and is simultaneously secured during transport, whereby the gas generator should additionally be securely fastened. To this end, the short-circuiter is provided with at least one o-ring (30) which serves as a seal and the upper side of the short-circuiter piston, when in a non-released state, lies flush on a pressure membrane (24) such that a vacuum is produced which brings the short-circuiter piston back to its starting position again when the piston moves during a non-released state.
