<p>The disclosed invention provides an improved system and method for securing annular parts (5) such as bearings, bushings and seals in machines, providing a split housing (7, 8) with a groove on the inner surface that mates with the outer surface of the annular part (5). The annular part is held securely in the housing (7, 8) without twisting because of the shape of the groove (4), which has a cross section that is an arc of a circle, the circle having a radius that is less than the radius of the annular part (5). The invention also provides a method of making the groove (4) using a ball-nose cutter on a computer controlled milling machine, which method is much faster and easier than the present methods of machining housings and allows for improved accuracy. The use of the computer controlled milling machine is made possible by the innovative shape of the groove.</p> |
