The timing gear has mechanical or hydraulic transmission of valve opening force. A device (16,30,32,33) generates an RPM- dependant pretension force, which acts on the valve (3) against the force of the valve spring (5). The pretension force is large within the lower RPM range, and is small within the higher RPM range. The force is constant up to a middle RPM, and the quickly drops to zero. The pretension force acts directly, or via the intermediate end of the rocker arm (22) on the valve plunger (4), so that it reduces the force of the valve spring.
