The method involves detecting deviations in a measuring system based on the processing of video signals, in which a mirror is placed in a detection area of a camera delivering a video signal. The mirror is positioned at a determined relative position with respect to its distance, and angle, and projects a stationary mark into the camera image. The position values of the stationary mark are supplied to a processing computer, and correction elements are determined from the deviations of the detected and predetermined position values. Two mirrors with a predetermined spatial relation to each other may be used to project respective marks into the camera image.
