In a process for monitoring a target zone from a removed site, a sequence of successive individual images of the target zone is first recorded. A first number of individual images from said sequence is stored at the target zone in uncompressed or only slightly compressed form. A second number of individual images from said sequence is compressed with a compression rate which makes it possible to transmit at least some of the compressed images through a transmission channel. At least some individual images among the second number of individual images are transmitted to the removed site through the transmission channel, and then a transmitted and compressed individual image is selected at the removed site. Finally, an individual image among the first number of individual images located at least in the proximity of the selected individual image in the sequence, is transmitted from the target zone to the removed site to allow details of interest of the target zone to be observed with higher resolution. |
