<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight of a golf club, particularly in a wood club, by reducing the wall thickness of a face member and to increase the carry of a golf ball even if the wall thickness of the face member is reduced. SOLUTION: A backup member 41 is provided on the back of a plate-shaped face member 25 to form a space S between the face member 25 and the backup member 41. When striking a golf ball, the face member 25 and the backup member 41 work in combination to increase the carry of the golf ball. The interval between the face member 25 and the backup member 41 is 1 to 10 mm at the center (sweet spot) of the face member 25, gets smaller the farther it is from the center, and is preferably zero at the outer periphery of the face member 25.</p> |
