PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial agent composition capable of reducing a benzalkonium salt without lowering antimicrobial properties, slight in irritation, by including an alkyldimethylbenzylammonium salt (benzalkonium salt) and a serine-N,N-diacetate. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial agent comprises (A) an alkyldimethylbenzylammonium salt (benzalkonium salt) of formula I (R<1> is a 12-14C alkyl, preferably a straight-chain alkyl; X is an anion such as a halogen ion, a monohexadecylphosphoric acid ester ion, etc.), and (B) a serine-N,N- diacetate of formula II (M is H or a cation such as an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, ammonium, an alkylammonium, etc.), in the ratio of the component B/the component A (molar ratio) of >=0.5, more preferably 0.5-5, especially preferably 1-2. The amounts of the components A and B mixed are preferably 0.1-40 wt.% and 0.05-30 wt.%, more preferably 2-20 wt.% and 1-15 wt.%, respectively. |
