PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact energy absorbing mechanism not to influence the supporting rigidity of a steering column. SOLUTION: In a steering device where a steering column 12 is supported on a car body 20 at a steep slope, the device has a car body side braket 42 where an upper supporting mechanism B for supporting the upper part of the steering column 12 so as to be movable longitudinally and vertically is fixed to the car body 20; a column side bracket 43 which is fixed to the steering column 12 and assembled on the car body side bracket 42 so as to be positionally adjustable longitudinally and vertically; an engaging-disengaging means 50 for fixing or releasing the column side bracket 43 to the car body side bracket 42 through frictional engagement; an operation lever 60 to operate the engaging-disengaging means; and a shock absorbing belt plate 71 which is plastically deformed by a plurality of pins 44 when both the brackets 41, 43 move relatively more than a set value to absorb an impact energy. |
