ALUMINUM NITRIDE POWDER COATED WITH COATING FILM OF SILANOL GROUP-CONTAINING POLYORGANOSILOXANE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain AlN powder excellent in water resistance by an easy process at a relatively low cost. SOLUTION: The surfaces of AlN particles are coated with coating films of silanol group-contg. polyorganosiloxane through Al-O-Si bonds to obtain the objective coated AlN powder. The silanol group-contg. polyorganosiloxane is preferably a polymer having an average mol.wt. of >=5,000. The thickness of the coated powder is <=1μm. When the coated powder is immersed in warm water at 40 deg.C and pH is measured in accordance with the lapse of time, the coated powder has the same tendency as pure water and is more excellent in water resistance than uncoated powder. It can suppress the reduction of heat conductivity to the utmost.
