PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-quality aliphatic tertiary amine which contains little non-amine components such as esters and alcohols, and has good hue, and a derivative from which gives no turbidity even after long term storage. SOLUTION: The amine is obtained by (i) reacting a molecule of an aliphatic primary alcohol with a molecule of dimethylamine, (ii) reacting two molecules of an aliphatic primary alcohol with a molecule of methylamine, or (iii) reacting three molecules of an aliphatic primary alcohol with a molecule of ammonia, to give a crude aliphatic tertiary amine, and adding an alkali to the obtained product, followed by distillation. |
