PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalytic converter for exhaust emission control excellent in heat resistance and durability by preventing deformation of a metal shell to enhance durability of an inorganic sealing material. SOLUTION: In a catalytic converter 1 composed of a colomnlike catalyst carrier 4, cylindrical metal shells 21, 22 to cover the outside of the carrier 4, and a sealing layer 3 comprising an inorganic sheet layer interposed and nipped therebetween, an inorganic insulating material 7 is attached via a metal net 8 in a metal shell inner circumference in vicinity of both end parts in the axial direction of the converter 1. The sealing layer 3 and the inorganic insulating material 7 are composed of a manlike material of alumina fiber, and its packing density is set to be 0.30 g/cm<3> . A stainless steel net having 150μm of wire diameter and 50 mesh of sieve opening is used for the metal net 8, to fixedly hold by spot-welding the inorganic insulating material 7 arranged in the inner circumference of the metal shells 21, 22.
