PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an alkali-resistant refractory excellent in applicability, hardly generating the peeling and drop of the refractory, excellent in adhesivity to water pipes and studs and inhibiting the permeation and erosion of an alkaline smelt by applying a coating material comprising MgO powder and sodium silicate or a coating material comprising the sodium silicate alone to the surface of a sprayed refractory or castable refractory in the oven. SOLUTION: A coating material comprising MgO powder or sodium silicate and used for covering a refractory is applied to the wall surface of an oven made from a known spraying material or castable material comprising one or more kinds of known aggregates selected from aggregates (e.g. sintered alumina) and alumina cement as a curing agent so that the coating material can correspond to an alkaline smelt. The coating material is directly coated on the surface of the sprayed refractory. Thereby, the reaction with the strongly alkaline smelt is concentrated on the surface of the refractory, and the production of the highly viscous alkali-silica reaction product prevents the permeation of the alkali into the refractory. |
