PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a protection device for an inverter which can work in a highly reliable state over a wide temperature range through temperature correction. SOLUTION: A protection device for an inverter is provided with an insulated gate bipolar transistor 3 which constitutes an inverter, a collector-emitter voltage detecting circuit 4 which detects the voltage between the emitter and the collector of a transistor 3, an overcurrent discriminating circuit 6 for setting detecting time, an insulated gate bipolar transistor drive and stopping circuit 5 which stops an insulated gate bipolar transistor drive circuit 2, when an overcurrent is detected, a temperature correcting circuit 7 which corrects the temperature at detecting time, and a temperature sensor 8 which detects the ambient temperature of the transistor 3. Consequently, the protecting device can be used in highly reliable state in an environment such that the temperature fluctuates over a wide range by correcting the temperature characteristic of the transistor 3 by means of a built-in temperature sensor. |
