PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling an air conditioner capable of preventing an abnormal rise in an outlet temperature of a refrigerant heater by adequately balancing a heating value and a circulating quantity of refrigerant and that for controlling the outlet temperature thereof. SOLUTION: An outdoor unit 2 having a capacity variable type compressor, a four-way valve, an outdoor heat exchanger, and a refrigerant heater is connected by means of a refrigerant piping to at least one of indoor units 4a and 4b having an indoor heat exchanger. A saturation temperature calculating means 74 for calculating a saturation temperature of an outlet pressure of the refrigerant heater and a heater outlet temperature detecting means 76 for detecting an outlet temperature of the refrigerant heater are provided, and a compressor frequency changing means 82 is provided to calculate a degree of superheat of the outlet of a refrigerant heater by a means for calculating the degree of superheat 78 based on an output of the heater outlet temperature detecting means 76 and an output of the saturation temperature calculating means 74 in a manner that the degree of superheat obtained by this calculation is defined as a predetermined value.
