PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens system comact in structure although it satisfys a high variable power ratio and high image quality. SOLUTION: In this zoom lens system composed, in order from the object side, of a first lens group Gr1 having a positive power, a second lens group Gr2 having a negative power, a third lens group Gr3 having a positive power and performing zooming operation by changing an interval between the respective lens groups, the third lens group includes a positive lens, being convex on the object side and provided on the side closest to the object, and at least one negative lens and the condition: 1.0<img×R<15.0 is satisfied, where, img: the maximum image height (mm unit), R: the effective diameter (mm unit) of a lens surface located on the side closest to the image except a filter, etc., among the lens surfaces composing the zoom lens system.
