PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer optical waveguide which is excellent in heat resistance and humidity resistance, low in optical loss, capable of precisely controlling the refractive index, capable of controlling the film thickness to the prescribed value, and excellently low in cost by using an organic/inorganic polymer complex having a structure where polystyrene is dispersed in an inorganic matrix having silsesquioxane structure. SOLUTION: An organic/inorganic polymer complex has the structure in which polystyrene is dispersed in the inorganic matrix having a silsesquioxane structure and has the interaction of phenyl groups between a functional group of the inorganic matrix and the phenyl group of polystyrene. The inorganic matrix is synthesized of an organic silicon compound having a hydrolyzable organic group to be expressed by the formula: (R<1> )Si(OR<2> )3 , where R<1> denotes the phenyl group, and R<2> denotes a lower alkyl group. The weight ratio of the inorganic matrix to polystyrene is 1-10:10:1 in terms of alkoxysilane: polystyrene. |
