PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which suppresses the increase of noises in spite of the long-term storage and, further, has a higher durability and corrosion-resistance. SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium is composed of a supporter and a magnetic coating film which is applied to one of the surfaces of the supporter. The magnetic coating film contains acicular alloy magnetic powder whose particles contain iron and cobalt as main component, have major axis diameters of not longer than 0.25 μm and axial ratios of 4-8, contain cobalt with a weight content of 8-50 wt.% to iron. Further, the surface smoothness of the magnetic coating film is such that its center line average roughness is not larger than 0.004 μm and the total thickness of the magnetic recording medium is not thicker than 14 μm. |
