The hinge comprises an articulated joint formed by a tenon (4), e.g. on the shape of a cylinder or ball, fitting into a mortise or socket (8) in a lug (7) on the end of the frame side piece (6). The pivot for the joint is in the form of a tubular cylindrical metal peg (12) which is split and self-expanding, which locks into coaxial holes (5, 10) in the ball and lug. The diameter of the holes is smaller than the diameter of the peg at rest, the peg compressing by between 0.1 and 0.2 mm on insertion.
