This invention relates to a method and an apparatus for humidifying a room. The apparatus is a decorative humidifier comprising a water reservoir, a porous body and pumping means for pumping water from the reservoir to the top of the porous body thereby increasing the surface area over which the water flows. The water then r uns down the porous body by gravity infiltrating the pores of the porous body and increasing the surface area over which the water flows. The increase in surface area over which the water flows increases the efficiency of water evaporation and enh ances the ambient air humidity without any mechanical means.
