PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a silver halide photographic emulsion contain a fine platelike particle having a large equivalent circular diameter and to make attainable high photographic sensitivity while keeping low graininess by making the emulsion contain the platelike particle having a specified diameter and thickness. SOLUTION: At least 95% of the particle constituting the emulsion is a high-platelike particle having a high bromide content and the emulsion contains the platelike particle having >=5μparticle size and <0.1μm thickness, which is adjusted by a nucleus forming process for forming a nucleus forming silver halide of (x) molar numbers, an aging process and a growth process for forming silver halide of total molar numbers of (y). The y/x is >=500. The emulsion contains at least 20% platelike particle having >=5μm particle size and <0.1μm thickness. The platelike particle high in bromide content is a silver halide particle containing at least 50 mol.% bromide based on silver, preferably at least 70 mol.% bromide and the remaining halide can be a chloride, an iodide or the mixture.
