PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small, light, and highly precise bar code reading device which is integrated with a computer interface card such as a PCMCIA card. SOLUTION: The bar code reading device is provided with an almost rectangular case body equipped with a card type area 10 which is inserted into a slot provided at a computer from the rear side so as to be electrically connectable with the computer side. The case body is provided with an optical reading means 6 constituted of a pair of light emitting element and light receiving element, and a scanning head 7 for projecting a light from the light emitting element to a bar code, and introducing a reflected light from the bar code to the light receiving element is projected from the front side of the case body. Then, the tip end of the scanning head 7 is arranged while being drawn back from a plane formed at a front edge face 20a. When the bar code reading device is erroneously dropped, the scanning head 7 can be prevented from colliding with a floor surface at first by arranging while drawing back the scanning head 7 from the front edge face 20a. |
