The monitor includes an unit (11) for a regulation of an operating point of a cathode ray tube (1), whose tube floor (6) is equipped with a luminescent layer (5), and comprises a visible area (19) for the display of information, and a invisible area (15). A test signal is displayed for the regulation of the operating point. Devices (16, 17, 18) are provided, which record a brightness value in at least one part of the invisible area during the display of the test signal, and convert the recorded brightness value into a control parameter supplied to the regulation unit for the regulation of the operating point. The devices comprise preferably a light collector arranged on the tube floor and a sensor, arranged in an area covered by a monitor frame (14), and a brightness conversion unit (16) for the conversion of the brightness value.
