Substituted 5-phenyl-pentanols (IA) are new. Substituted 5-phenyl-pentanols (IA) of formula (I), with specified exceptions, are new; R<1>, R<2> = H, 3-8C alkyl or 1-8C alkoxy; or R<1>, R<2> = methylenedioxo -O-CH2-O-; R<3>-R<8> = H or 1-8C alkyl; and R<1>-R<8> = groups with a total of 2-8C atoms; and at least one of R<3>-R<9> = H. The exceptions to (IA) are 5-phenyl-2,4-dimethylpentanol (IB), 5-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-2-methyl-pentanol (IC), 5-phenyl-2-ethyl-pentanol (ID), 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3,3-dimethyl-pentanol (IE) and 5-phenyl-3,3-dimethyl-pentanol (IF). An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of (IA). |
