Carbon monoxide, hydrogen and an organic compound containing olefinic unsaturation are reacted under the conditions of temperature and pressure of the Oxo synthesis reaction in the presence of an aqueous solution of a metallic salt catalyst, the process being carried out in the presence of a surface tension reducing agent, consisting of an alkyl aryl sulphonate or of a salt of an aromatic or naphthenic sulphonic acid, which is stable under reaction conditions. In the example a C9 fraction, separated from the product obtained by the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide in the presence of an iron catalyst, is mixed with varying proportions of mono alkyl benzene sulphonate, the alkyl chain of which contains 16 carbon atoms, and the mixture is treated with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst consisting of cobalt sulphate heptahydrate and magnesium sulphate heptahydrate to give a mixture containing aldehydes and hydrocarbons.
|
