PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for gasifying a carbon compd. whereby and wherewith a gas mixture comprising an oxidizing agent and steam can be supplied with a common supply means in a composite coal gasification/ power generation system. SOLUTION: In a carbon compd. gasification apparatus 20 wherein a fuel (e.g. coal) comprising carbon compds. is sent to a burner 3 of a gasification oven 1 and gasified in the oven 1 by the reaction with an oxidizing agent and water, a mixing tank 4 for mixing the oxidizing agent with water, a heating apparatus 5 for heating water in the mixing tank 4, and a gas mixture supply pipe 13 for supplying a gas mixture comprising the oxidizing agent and steam and generated in the mixing tank 4 are installed.
