PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst for producing poly(α-olefin) having improved formability, wide distribution of molecular weight, and high tacticity. SOLUTION: The catalyst is obtained by including (A) a solid component containing magnesium, titanium, a halogen, and an electron-donating compound as essential components, (B) an organoaluminum compound, and (C) a dialkyldialkoxysilane shown by the formula R<1> R<2> Si(OR<3> )(OCH3 ) (R<1> and R<2> are straight alkyl groups wherein the sum of both carbon numbers is 4-10; R<3> is a 3C-6C branched alkyl group).
