PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate stabilization of high quality level of a print image and regulation of a gap by automatically detecting and controlling a gap between an anode and a cathode. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a columnar anode 11, an ink supply means, a printing head 19 having a cathode 17 for forming dots of solidifying ink, a removing means for removing non-solidifying ink, and a transfer means for bringing dots of the solidifying ink into contact with material to be printed to transfer to print. In this case, the printer further comprises a gap sensor 31 for detecting a gap G between a surface of the anode 11 and the cathode 17 in the head 19, and a gap control means 33 for controlling the gap G detected by the sensor 31 to a preset value. |
