PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent that the free end of a fiber whips a fiber layer having been wound on a spool and thereby damages the fiber layer, when the fiber is broken, while being wound on the spool. SOLUTION: This method for reducing or preventing the damage of a fiber wound on a spool comprises surrounding a spool 2 with a non-circular protecting member having a smooth and continuous inner surface, catching the free end of the fiber with the inlet surface of the protection member during the rotation of the spool 2, and holding the end of the fiber on the inner surface of the protecting member during the rotation of the spool, thus holding the free end of the fiber in a state separated from the fiber having been wound on the spool 2. |
