PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new antibiotic, vinylamycin, having antibacterial activities against gram stain positive bacteria and their multiple medicine-resistant bacteria (including methicillin-resistant bacteria). SOLUTION: An antibiotic, vinylamycin, having a chemical structure of the formula. The antibiotic is obtained by culturing a vinylamycin producing bacterium, e.g. Streptomyces S.P.-MI 982-63F1 strain (FERM P-16404) and subsequently collecting the antibiotic from the culture product. The vinylamycin has the following physicochemical properties: (1) a colorless powdery appearance, (2) a specific rotary power [α]D<25> +173 deg. (C:0.85, DMSO), (3) ultraviolet light absorption spectrum (in methanol)λmax nm(ε), 261 (14200), 227 (14100), (4) soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide, insoluble in water. |
