PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base for printed image material having good picture quality and high rigidity, wherein soil (edge stain) caused by infiltrating from the edge of cut area at the time of various processing are considerably inhibited by containing water-soluble high-molecular compound in at least one layer of multi-layer base paper. SOLUTION: A base for printed image material is coated with a resin having film forming ability on both sides of base paper having main component of natural pulp, where base paper is manufactured in a combination method for manufacturing multi-layer base paper having two or more multi-layer construction. And at least one layer of multi-layer combination base paper contains a water-soluble high-molecular compound through a spray method.
