PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polypeptide, comprising histidine kinase polyepeptides having a high identity to a specific amino acid sequence and useful for the screening of antimicrobial compounds, the screening, treatment, diagnosis or the like of infection with bacteria of the genus Streptococcus. SOLUTION: This new histidine kinase polypeptide comprises an isolated polypeptide having at least 70% identity, 80% identity, 90% identity or 95% identity to an amino acid sequence represented by formula I or II over the entire length thereof, an isolated polypeptide containing the amino acid sequence represented by formula I or II or an isolated polypeptide which is the amino acid sequence represented by formula I or II and is useful for the screening of antimicrobial compounds, treatment, diagnosis or the like of infection with bacteria of the genus Streptococcus. The polypeptide is obtained by screening a chromosomal DNA library of Streptococcus pneumoniae 0100993, integrating the resultant gene into a vector and expressing the gene in a host cell. |
