<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in a high purity and in a high yield by nitrating a bishydroxyphenyl compound with nitric acid in an aqueous sulfuric acid solution. SOLUTION: A bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) compound is nitrated with nitric acid preferably in a molar ratio of 1.95-2.05 to the bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) compound in an aqueous sulfuric acid preferably having a concentration of 60-85 wt.% at a reaction temperature of -20 to 50 deg.C with the injection of the nitric acid for 1-3 hr and furthermore subjected to the reaction for 1-5 hr to obtain a compound represented by the formula (X is methylene, a substituted alkylene, an aralkylene or the like; R1 and R2 are each H, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy or the like) [e.g. 2,2-bis(3-bis(3-nitro-4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane]. If necessary, a surfactant (e.g. an alkylbenzene sulfonic acid salt) may be used on the reaction.</p> |
