They consist in subjecting the piece of leather 1 to a first stage of engraving, in which ribs or reliefs 2, appropriate in terms of form, dimension and position for the ornamental motifs to be reproduced on said piece 1 are obtained, in order subsequently to form an embroidery base which is formed over the aforesaid ribs or reliefs 2 using a layer of transverse threads 3 which cover said reliefs 2. In this way, the embroidered motifs are made to stand proud, with a three-dimensional appearance, as if this were "solid" embroidery involving the use of a large amount of thread. <IMAGE>
