Electronic constant current charging for lead-acid batteries

The electronic charging circuit has a switch-mode power supply (1) controlled by a processor (7) which monitors the state of charge of a battery by measuring its terminal voltage (11) and also the charging current (8). Using this information the processor switches between two charging states: the constant current mode, and constant voltage mode with current limiting for maintenance charging.
