Mixing of a two-component substance

The components are packed in their correct relative proportions in individual containers. These are interconnected through a tube (5), clamped at (6) to prevent premature contact. The containers are identical. The contents are covered by an elastic membrane (2) that can be expanded by compressed air admitted at (8). In operation, clamp (6) is removed and compressed air is admitted to one container so that its contents are forced into the second container where they are mixed by a stirrer (14). The reverse process then takes place as compressed air is admitted at (80) and this to-and-fro mixing is continued until a homogenous mixture has been obtained. The process can be extended to a three-component mixture. The containers and their connecting pipe and stirrers are disposable.
