Air to be purified in an electrofilter with denaturing deposition electrodes is preloaded with dust having denaturing and absorbent properties to improve the separation of bacteria, allergens, viruses, etc. The efficiency of denaturing of the air is improved by enriching the air to be treated with absorbent dust particles which take up the bacteria, allergens, viruses and other pollutants which are then deposited together with the dust by the denaturing and deposition electrodes.
