<p>The present invention is directed toward a transgenic non-human vertebrate animal comprised of germ cells and somatic cells which contain a recombinant gene which is substantially homologous to a human adipocyte membrane glycoprotein, CD36. Overexpression of the CD36 gene in a tissue promotes localized (tissue-specific) and systemic changes in fatty acid metabolism, overall body fat and weight gain in the animal.</p> |
