A condensed mat (26) of glass fibers incorporating a thermosetting resin is expanded over a mold (68). Gripping elements (70, 74, 76) at the edges of the mold (68) hold the edges of the expanded mat (36) in place while a second mold (42) confines and deforms the expanded mat (36) between the two molds (68, 42). Hot air is passed through the porous molds (68, 42) and through the expanded mat (36) to set the thermosetting resin which thereby holds the expanded mat (36) in its deformed shape to form a panel.
