<p>A multi-point latching system is adapted for mounting on a panel (202) and securing the panel (202) to a frame (200). The system includes a central latch (20), remote latches (108) and connecting rods (100, 102, 104). The central latch (20) includes a housing (26) and a handle assembly (22) pivotably mounted in the housing (26) for rotation about an axis parallel to the panel (202) for opening and closing the central latch (20). The handle assembly (22) extends through the housing (26) and includes a handle (24) and a pivot arm (38). The pivot arm (38) extends from the back of the housing (26). The central latch (20) also includes an actuator (64) pivotably mounted for rotation normal to the panel (202); and a link (62) connecting the handle assembly (22) to one of the connecting rods (100, 102, 104), which is also connected to the actuator (64), such that the actuator (64) is rotated by rotating the handle assembly (22). The remote latches (108) are engaged by rotation of the actuator plate (64) through the connecting rods (100, 102, 104).</p> |
