Method of data communications between a read-write device and a transponder

The method involves varying the field strength of an alternating electromagnetic or magnetic field and evaluating the times between successive field strength changes. The input resonant circuit of the transponder is damped in the same sense as the alternating field strength and/or a threshold of the transponder receiver is shifted in the same sense as the filed strength.
