The invention concerns a device for the maintenance of programmable automatons, comprising at least a clamp formed by a pair of arms (12, 14) each bearing at its end an elongated tube (13, 15) whereon a tool (E) is fixed, the end (23, 25) of the elongated tubes (13, 15) being tapered in shape and co-operating with a matching tapered shape (24) formed on the tool (E), the device comprising at least an installation module (30) including a support (31) formed by a ramp (34) guiding a rectilinear magazine (36) of tools (E) maintained in housings (42) open laterally towards one side of the magazine (36) for extracting the tools (E) laterally. The invention is characterised in that the tools (E) are arranged alternately in the magazine (36) housings (42), and there is an even number of housings (42). The invention is applicable to welding robots.
