The invention concerns a drive source for feeding extinguishing medium to at least one sprinkler head 2, 3 for fire-extinguishing, which drive source comprises: a liquid source 5 with liquid and a gas source 9; mixing devices for mixing the liquid from the liquid source 5 and the gas from the gas source 9; and transporting devices 1 for conveying the liquid and the gas to the sprinkler head in such a way that an extinguishing medium containing both a liquid component and a gas component is conveyed to the sprinkler head. To permit a controllable metering of gas in the liquid and a comparatively uniform and small droplet size during a comparatively long period of the extinguishing procedure, the drive source is characterized in that the mixing devices comprise a cylinder/piston arrangement 50 including a first piston 12 which has been arranged in a first cylinder 10 and a second piston 13 which has been arranged in a second cylinder 11, which cylinder/piston arrangement is designed to convey both liquid and gas simultaneously to the transport devices 1 upon each stroke. <IMAGE>
