An area of the outer contour of the counter holder corresponds to an area of the inner contour of a nave to be formed. The round-shaped work piece (2) is set in rotation. At least one roller (8) is introduced and moved radially inwards, whereby on the work piece a material flow occurs. The radial movement inwards of the roller is terminated when the distance between it and the counter holder corresponds to the required thickness of the nave wall. For the work piece, a roller with a dividing edge (10) and a connecting thrust area (28) are provided, the outer contour (14) of which corresponds to an outer contour of the nave to be formed.
