A device and procedure for controlling a generator is described, especially an AC one with three stator inductances and a rectifier bridge, through which the current generated in the stator inductances by the pole wheel voltages are rectified. The rectifier bridge can be short-circuited at least temporarily by a switching element whose switching path lies parallel to the bridge designed as a diode bridge (DB), while to the base of the transistor, a corresponding control signal is passed. The switching element is a transistor (T), especially a MOSFET or an IGBT. To the transistor is passed a signal that can be modulated, especially by PWM, or a signal with a variable pulse width ratio.
