TORUS CONFORMAL WINDOW AND SENSOR SYSTEM USING THE WINDOW

A window (28) is made of a curved piece of a transparent material having a front surface (37) and a back surface (38). At least one of the front surface (37) and the back surface (38) has a shape which is a segment of a convex aspheric shape rotated about a center, otherwise known as a torus. The window is aerodynamic and has low aberrations. It is used in movable look down sensors mounted on aircraft.
