The spark plug has an insulating body (3) in a metallic housing (4) having a longitudinal hole (11) which is penetrated at its combustion chamber-side end by a central electrode (2) fixed on the insulating body, separated by a spark gap (8) from an earthed electrode (5). At least in sections on the inner surface of the hole of the body, an electrically conducting layer (7) is applied which is electrically connected to the central electrode. On the outer surface of the insulating body, at least in sections, an electrically conducting layer (9) is applied near the metallic housing.
