Digital camera with controllable focus position

A device for manually positioning the focus point of an auto-focus digital still camera, allows the user to take a picture focused at a specific position within the subject field. The apparatus comprises a display unit 40 for displaying an image of the subject which has an associated location marker representing the focus position, together with a switch unit 30 and/or a touch screen 44 (which covers an active area of the display unit) for moving the marker across the display screen 40. The apparatus further comprises a focus controller 80 for focussing the camera at a position on the subject corresponding to the marker on the display.
