<p>A multifunctional structure (41) for forming a sound proofing, vibration damping and heat insulating vehicle lining, especially a floor or bulkhead insulation, door lining or roof lining, has an air layer (25) provided between a vehicle surface portion (11) and a noise reducing multilayer assembly package (42) including at least one porous elastic layer (13), especially an open porous foam layer (e.g. of polyurethane). In order to form an ultra-light structure (41) providing an optimal combination of sound proofing, sound absorption and vibration damping, the assembly package (42) is free from heavy layers and includes a microporous stiffening layer (14), especially an open porous fibre or fibre/foam composite layer, having a total air flow resistance (Rt) of 500-2500, preferably 900-2000 Nsm-3, a weight per unit area (mf) of 0.3-2.0, preferably 0.5-1.6 kg/m2 and preferably a bending rigidity (B) of 0.005-10.5, especially 0.025-6.0 Nm.
