Process for the production of a coated monolithic metal support

The prodn. of a cylindrical monolithic metal support body,which is gas-permeable in the axial direction, involves stacking or folding and opt. tortuously or spirally winding one or more dispersion coating-covered flat and/or corrugated metal strips which are arranged with their lengths transverse to the cylindrical axis and which opt. have slits, perforations and/or embossed regions. During and/or after forming of the body, the strips are metallurgically bonded to at least one adjacent metal strip or adjacent layer of the same strip, pref. by electron beam, laser or resistance welding or by brazing.
