RECORDING AND REPRODUCING METHOD OF OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM AND OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable exact tracking and to suppress an increase in crosstalks with an overwritable phase transition type optical recording medium by attaining a higher recording density and suppressing the increase in cross erasure. SOLUTION: This method executes recording and reproducing with the phase transition type optical recording medium which has grooves across lands on the surface of a substrate having a thickness of <=0.8 mm and uses the lands and the grooves as recording tracks. The method executes overwriting under the conditions under which recording power Pw[mW] and erasing power Pe[mW] satisfy (Pw/Pe)xk<2> <=8.5 when a recording track pitch is defined as P[μm], the numerical aperture of a recording and reproducing optical system as NA, the wavelength of the recording and reproducing light as λ[μm] and when k=(λ/NA)/P>=1.78 is set.
